 MONASTERY SAN JOSE (Poor Clares) - VILLAGE OF BIRDS

Its foundation obeyed the request of some Franciscan priests and others who wished to see in Portugal restored the Second Franciscan Order, Order of St. Clare. Indeed, after the exclaustration 1910 in Portugal there was no monastery canonically erected, while in Lisbon, Madeira and Louriçal they had kept heroically some sisters gathered, were able to recover the community life. The Monastery of Louriçal was bastion of this resistance, being the former monastery bought at auction by one of the sisters. 
After a few years of constant requests, was on 17 June 1955 that, coming from Menorca - Balearic Islands - Mother Clara, with three sisters (one of whom still live in Catalonia Monastery) founded the Monastery of St. Joseph Sisters Poor Clares of Vila das Aves. The building belongs was of the Visitation Sisters.
Manual work of the Sisters in addition to means of support, answers, too, the people's needs, especially in embroidery, restoration of antiques, etc.
The Monastery of St. Joseph is born from a burning love for the Order and charism of St. Clare. Contemplative charism, the presence of the Poor Clare Sisters is essentially focused on the spiritual life and under the shadow of monastery to embrace many people in search of Peace and Well, emanating especially the Eucharist. The perpetual adoration is a characteristic that brand from the beginning, this Monastery.
