MOSTEIRO SANTA ESCOLÁSTICA (Roriz)
Over the (MOSTEIRO SANTA ESCOLÁSTICA (Roriz))
MONASTERY ST. SCHOLASTICA (BENEDICTINE) RORIZ Founded by Bethany Monastery, the Monastery of St. Scholastica, is located in Roriz, in northern border of the diocese of Porto, county of Santo Tirso. In 1935, the founding nuns one French and five Portuguese, (four of which Madeira) coming from Bethany in response to an appeal of the monks of St. Benedict from Singeverga Abbey, began construction of the current monastery. So blossomed monastic life in Portugal, in what was once populated region of numerous monasteries. It is a witness to this devotion to St. Benedict, as ingrained in the northern population whose maximum expression can still today find the thousands of pilgrims who flock to the sanctuary of St. Benedict of the Open Door, the second National Sanctuary, after Fatima. ..The first irradiation of the Community was to Angola, as has happened in Belgium with African foundations of Bethany Monastery. Born after the following MonasterySanta Maria do Mar (Sassoeiros, near Lisbon) and later Monastery Our Lady of Good News (in Torrão Alentejo). After Independence of Angola and the dispersion caused by the war, the Benedictine monastic life resurged, and today the Roriz Monastery takes the training young sisters from Angolan for the future Priory of Huambo.
