 MONASTERY IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY  (Discalced Carmelites) – PAÇOS DE FERREIRA

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Order of the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, are part of a religious family, coming on the heels of Eastern monasticism and whose inspired on the Fathers Ancients of Mount Carmel, particularly the Prophet Elijah and Elisha. In the sixteenth century St. Teresa of Jesus, Carmelite nun of the Monastery of the Incarnation at Avila, reform the Order, wanting to go back to the primitive fervor of Mount Carmel, and giving you a missionary and apostolic character.
We are a monastic community of about twenty Discalced Carmelite nuns, who in the wake of more genuine Eastern monastic tradition of the Egyptian desert fathers and Palestine, in the tradition of Elijah and Elisha, the ancient Fathers of Mount Carmel and Teresa Jesus and John of the Cross, we follow today, Jesus Christ, making the Gospel to our full-time occupation with a particular emphasis of the values of prayer and friendship.
